Wall Art Trends

Last week we talked about how important art is in a space and how to be bold and confident when choosing art for over your sofa.  The same principles apply when selecting art for all of your walls.  Selecting art is personal and all about what you love.  Your piece or collection should inspire you every time you gaze at it.  And walls are the perfect medium to express your style and tastes and to really individualize your home!  There are tons of options to choose from to dress your walls and with so many creative choices; it can be a bit overwhelming to decide what wall candy is right for your space and your tastes.  There are some really stylish and fun trends right now for wall art and wall décor that anyone can take advantage of to personalize their home.  Here are some of our favorite wall art trends to incorporate into your space….

Gallery walls have been popular for quite some time and this trend is not going away any time soon.  Some typical areas in your home to install a picture gallery are in a foyer, a hallway or up a staircase as shown above.  They really add drama to a wall and are a great focal point in your space.  Choose family photos, favorite pieces of art, prints, pet photos, etc. to create a stunning display.  Here are some more stylish examples of gallery walls that use a combination of photos, prints, and artwork to create high style, on trend art galleries…

A coordinating color palette of neutrals keeps this sprawling gallery organized and cohesive while still adding a lot of impact in this open living room.

A "Love" Art Gallery

And you don’t always have to hang within the “grid”.  A heart shaped gallery of polaroids is an inspiring focal point in a bedroom.

Landscape Gallery Wall

A collection of thrift store paintings or framed works collected over the years showcases many landscapes that make up one large landscape installation over the bed.

One thing to also consider is that there are no longer formal “rules’ when choosing what to hang on your walls.  Wall art isn’t only for that with mat and frame.  Hanging unusual objects or atypical pieces is a popular wall art trend right now too…..

Found objects like driftwood from a nearby beach makes a stunning focal piece above the fireplace in this beach retreat.

One of our absolute favorite wall art trends right now is wall art panels.  Long gone are the boring prints and bland versions of the past.  Today’s wall art is colorful, textural, bold and even customizable!  Here at Alluminare, there are so many patterns, colors, and scales to choose from, your options are unlimited.

Wallpaper an entire room or just an accent wall for immediate drama and inspiration.  Wallpaper adds both color and texture to your space and transforms a room’s character.  For those who may be a little bit commitment-phobic, hang a small portion of artwork and frame it for a custom wall art trend that’s also popular right now….

Framed Wallpaper is a Popular Wall Trend

This damask pattern framed in picture moulding is a growing wall art trend that is completely customizable to your style and color preference.  Check out Alluminare’s patterns to create a focal wall like the one shown above.

Finally, a wall art trend that can be seen everywhere is wall decals.  Just when we thought it was on its way out, more creative options keep popping up.  Wall decals are a quick and often temporary way to dress up any wall in a multitude of styles and shapes.  Choose whimsical or daring to instantly change the atmosphere of your room.  One caveat, be selective and use sparingly.  As with most everything else, too much of a good thing usually isn’t.  So don’t go decal crazy, limit it to one room and no more than 1 – 2 walls.  Here are some great examples of creative wall decal placement…
